Renal angiomyolipoma
Overview
- A renal harmatoma.
- The most common benign tumor of the kidney.
- Almost all (95%) have macroscopic fat.
- Usually incidental findings.
Clinical significance
- Assoc. with Tuberous sclerosis complex esp. multiple / bilateral involvement in young patient
- Size > 4 cm or contain aneurysm → bleeding risk ↑
- Considered intervention consultation for embolisation
Lipid-poor renal AML
- Rare (5%), more commonly seen in TSC.
- Have to ddx with papillary RCC.
- Unlike RCC, lipid-poor renal AML don't have calcification
- Differential diagnosis: Renal hypoT2 lesions
