Mammography Techniques

Basics

• Cranial caudal (CC)
  • Nipple must be in profile and pointing straight
• Medial lateral oblique (MLO)
  • Nipple must be in profile
  • The lower edge of the pectoralis muscle must be at or below PNL
  • Inframammary fold should be visualized.
  • Relaxed (convex) pectoralis is preferred (showing more breast tissue).

Posterior Nipple Line (PNL)
PNL on CC must be within 1 cm of the same measurement of the MLO view.
