Mammography Techniques
Basics
- Cranial caudal (CC)
- Nipple must be in profile and pointing straight
- Medial lateral oblique (MLO)
- Nipple must be in profile
- The lower edge of the pectoralis muscle must be at or below PNL
- Inframammary fold should be visualized.
- Relaxed (convex) pectoralis is preferred (showing more breast tissue).
Posterior Nipple Line (PNL)
PNL on CC must be within 1 cm of the same measurement of the MLO view.
